One of my Favourite Architecture of All...

Lovely entrance... Guess where is this?

The National Museum of Singapore is my favourite architecture of all. Built by Colonel Sir Henry Edward McCallum, it was originally started as the Raffles Library and Museum in 1887. This was the place where the collections of our National Library were kept before the library was moved to the adjacent building  (aka The old National Library at Stamford Road) next to the museum building.

The Glass Passage is able to blend seamlessly to the old Neo-Palladian architecture at Level 2. From there you view the famous Rotunda Dome from the inside of the building. The other place where you can view the dome is at the play area just outside PLAY@NMS Level 3.

Rotunda Dome with its stained glass never fail to wow me. I am fascinated by the windows.

Strange enough, I never really take note of this building when I was younger. I used to think museum is a boring place and I dislike history. In recent years, due to the occasional free open house of the local museums, I get the chance to look carefully around the museum. With the implementation of free entrance into local museums from 18 May 2013, I suddenly develop the interest for history!

A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.
